2010 was 2nd warmest Spring on record for Minneapolis-St. Paul

The National Weather Service in the Twin Cities released the preliminary rankings of the warmest springs on record for the Twin Cities area.  The 2010 March – May period was the second warmest on record (dating back to 1871) with an average temperature of 52. 2°F.  This early warm weather helped some of the plants get an early start in the gardens.  However, knowing Minnesota weather we remained cautious of late season frost since the average last frost is early to mid May.  The “frost free” date for our area lands between May 22 and 28 according to the Minnesota State Climate Office.
